WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – A defendant pleaded guilty Monday to an amended charge after he was accused of punching an EMS worker in Warren last year.

Zackary McKenzie pleaded guilty to a fifth-degree felony charge of attempted assault. He will be sentenced at a later date, after a pre-sentencing investigation.

Police said McKenzie punched an EMS worker in the stomach on March 23, 2023 , as the EMS worker was treating him for a suspected overdose.

Later, McKenzie said he did not remember punching anyone, according to a police report.

He initially faced a felonious assault charge.
