WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – Warren police are looking into what caused an infant to require emergency medical attention.

A frantic call from a mom sent emergency responders to the Highland Terrace Apartments. The woman told dispatchers her 9-month-old wasn’t breathing.

The caller told 911 that the child had been wrapped around the cord of a fan.

    Dispatcher: “Did he touch something?”
Caller: “I think so. I think it did electrocute him.”

The incident happened June 6 on Martin Street SW. According to a police report, when officers arrived, a man told them an infant needed medical attention. The child was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

Trumbull County Children Services Executive Director Marilyn Pape says now’s a good time to check homes for things that may pose a safety risk.

“When tragedy happens, it really causes you to pause,” Pape said. “Infants, toddlers, they get into things so quickly, and accidents happen in a heartbeat. It’s a good time to do kind of a safety audit of your home to make sure that plugs are covered, that cords are in good shape.”

At this point, we don’t know the child’s condition.
