BAZETTA TWP, Ohio (WKBN) – Work to build an access road for emergency vehicles to get from the Bazetta Fire Department to Elm Road more efficiently is underway.

The project was made possible through a collaboration between ODOT, the Trumbull County Engineer’s Office, Norfolk Southern, township trustees, and the fire department. Construction began last week.

The road will only be used for emergency vehicles such as fire trucks and ambulances to exit the station onto State Route 5. Firefighters estimate it will save three to four minutes responding to emergencies.

“We talk in our field about time is brain and time is muscle, referring to the heart and the brain and those minutes are critical. In addition to that, speaking of fires — fire doubles in size every minute,” said firefighter Rob Wasser.

The fire department’s budget is covering the entire cost of the less than $30,000 project.
