WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) — A resolution supporting the continued operation of Trumbull Regional Medical Center and the union employees working there is on the agenda for this week’s Warren City Council meeting.

The new legislation proposal follows a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing by Steward Health Care System back in May, after which the company announced plans to sell all its hospitals. Steward Health Care operates Trumbull Memorial Medical Center, as well as two other Valley locations: Hillside Rehabilitation Hospital and Sharon Regional Hospital.

The hospitals were originally set for auction on June 27, but the sale was indefinitely delayed .

On the agenda for Wednesday’s Warren City Council meeting is a new resolution proposed by Sixth Ward Councilwoman Honeya Price in support of the continued operations of the center as well as the protection of union jobs.

The resolution draft states that hundreds of union workers are at risk of losing their jobs if a new operator does not bid to take over the facility.

It continues that if Trumbull Regional Medical Center closes, there will only be one remaining hospital to serve the entire population of Trumbull County and Warren residents, “greatly impacting the ease of access to quality medical care and put the residents at risk.”

The council meeting will be held at 5 p.m. at the Municipal Justice Building, located at 141 South Street SE.
