WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – Mercy Health is celebrating two big milestones: the 170th anniversary of the Sisters of the Humility of Mary and 100 years of St. Joseph Hospital.

The sisters visited the hospital Tuesday to join in the festivities. They included the unveiling of items, including newspaper articles and other memorabilia found in a 1980s time capsule discovered during St. Joseph Riverside Hospital’s demolition in 2022.

The sisters helped start the hospital at its previous location on Tod Avenue in 1924. It relocated to its current location in 1996.

The celebration included the burying of a new 2024 time capsule.

“What we put in the new time capsule includes things, obviously, from the COVID-era and our challenges during that time. We also were blessed with the solar eclipse, so we have articles in there for the eclipse and several items representing that 100th-anniversary celebration,” said Charlotte Gardiner, president of Mercy Health — St. Joseph Warren Hospital.

Gardiner said the hospital remains focused on continuing to meet the growing needs of the community.
