Judge Sean O’Brien sentenced Brendan Daviduk to life in prison with parole eligibility after 32 years. He will also have to register as a violent offender.

When given the opportunity to speak, Daviduk declined.

Prior to sentencing, victim Chassidy Broadstone’s family addressed the court.

“Mr. Daviduk, I forgive you and I pray you find the Lord,” Rose Richards, Broadstone’s mother, said. “Karma is a bad lady and she will come after you.”

“C’mon man, you ruined everybody’s life including your own,” said James Stein, Broadstone’s stepfather.

“I hope you find some kind of peace… ’cause you got a lot of years to think about it now.”

Last month, Daviduk pleaded guilty to charges including aggravated murder, attempted aggravated murder and aggravated arson. He, along with codefendants Patricia Zarlingo and Zackary Gurd, were charged following the January 19, 2023, fire on Nevada Avenue NW that killed 16-year-old Chassidy Broadstone. Two of Broadstone’s sisters were also hurt in the fire.

Zarlingo and Gurd have also pleaded guilty to charges stemming from the fire. Zarlingo was sentenced to life in prison with parole eligibility after 35 years. Gurd is still awaiting his sentencing, which is expected to take place in the next month or so.

“All of them will most likely die in prison, which is where they should die,” said Assistant Prosecutor Chris Becker.
