The South Hill Post 79 American Legion junior team split a pair of games against visiting Norfolk Post 327 on Saturday afternoon at Mecklenburg County High School. Xander Pulley pitched four innings to earn the win on the mound in the first game, allowing two earned runs on seven hits while striking out nine and walking one. Caleb Ward pitched three scoreless innings, allowing only one hit while striking out six and walking one.
Town of Goldsboro announces passing of former mayor Al King
GOLDSBORO, N.C. (WNCN) — According to the Town of Goldsboro, former mayor Al King passed away Wednesday. King served as mayor from 2002 to 2015. According to the City Government of Goldsboro, N.C. on Facebook, King was also part of the city’s Human Resources Department for 21 years before becoming the first and only Black mayor of Goldsboro. Police Chief Michael D. West said, “Mayor King’s leadership was defined by his unwavering dedication, vision, and compassion for all residents.”

Name released of man killed in shootout with Fayetteville police Tuesday
A man shot and killed by police Tuesday was wanted in a May 12 homicide on Seneca Drive, the Fayetteville Police Department announced Wednesday. Shakoor Quayon Williams, 33, of Fayetteville, died as a result of a gun battle with law enforcement when officers attempted to serve him with warrants charging him with first-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a felon and felony conspiracy in the killing of Willie James Russell, 32, on Mother's Day, a news release Wednesday said.

24 people arrested in Durham, 11 guns seized in violent crime operation
The Durham Police Department recently arrested more than 25 people as part of an operation targeting violent crime. The arrests were made in late June and early July in the areas of McDougald Terrace, Cornwallis Road and the Fayetteville Street corridor. Eleven firearms and a stolen scooter were seized, and dozens of people were arrested in connection with shootings, drug activity and firearm-related activity.
