WARRINGTON TOWNSHIP, PA—What started out as a search of a car for a possible unattended child turned into a foot chase to track down shoplifting suspects in the parking lot of the Warrington Home Depot.

Shortly before 5 p.m. on March 2, Warrington police were patrolling the parking lot when they noticed a blanket draped over a child seat in an unoccupied car. After becoming concerned that a child had been left in the car unattended, they saw the occupants returning to the car.

Upon seeing the police, the occupants allegedly fled on foot before. An investigation concluded that the two women, Kristal Smith, 26, of Jersey City and Desteni Grant, 24, of Brooklyn, had been shoplifting at Home Depot and Lowe’s on Route 611.

In the child seat under the cover of a blanket, police allegedly found more than $7,100 of merchandise, including 22 dimmer switches stolen from Home Depot.

Both women were charged with evading arrest or detention on foot and two counts of receiving stolen property.

Smith was processed and released. Bail was set for Grant at 10% cash of $50,000. She was taken to the Bucks County Correctional Center.
