    When it comes to weather, Missouri is a special place. We are known for blistering hot summers, and bitterly cold winters.

    Did you know the hottest and coldest temperatures ever recorded in Missouri happened in the same place? Warsaw, Missouri has the honor of holding both the record high and record-cold temperatures.

    On July 14, 1954, Warsaw and Union recorded the hottest temperature ever in Missouri, soaring to 118°. It was on this day that Illinois also set their all-time record high. East St. Louis, Illinois reached 117°.

    The summer of 1954 has gone down in history for its record heat wave. Extreme temperatures began the last week of June and lasted through the first of September. It was reaching a fever pitch on July 14.

    Arkansas reached its highest temperature ever on August 10, 1936. Ozark, Arkansas, a community about 40 miles east of Fort Smith, soared to 120°.

    The hottest temperature recorded in the United States was 134° on July 10, 1913, in Death Valley, California.

    Warsaw, Missouri set the record for coldest temperatures at -40° on February 13, 1905.
