    JWP track and field sees girls cap off historic week with Gopher Conference Championship

    After the Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton girls track and field team started the week by securing a spot in the Class A True Team state championships by finishing first in the section, the Bulldogs returned to action Saturday at Maple River H.S. to compete in the Gopher Conference Championships.

    The girls added to their incredible season by claiming the conference title , defeating second-place finisher NRHEG by 30.5 points, while the boys finished second, just 19 points behind Maple River.

    Saturday’s highlights for the girls began with Katelyn Olson finishing fourth in the 200m dash with a PR time of 27.44. In the 400m dash, Navaeh Weimert finished second with a PR time of 1:03.28 while MaKenzie Westphal finished third in the 800m run with a time of 2:32.33.

    In the 1600m run, Westphal finished fourth with a time of 5:44.95 while Lauren White finished fifth with a time of 5:53.73. White then finished second in the 3200m run with a time of 13:03.16.

    In the 300m hurdles, Onikia Herme posted a PR time of 50.89 to claim third.

    The 4x200m relay team of Brielle Bure, Herme, Westphal and Weimert finished second with a time of 1:51.81 while Ashlyn Wolff, Westphal, Lilly Strauss and MaKaela Westphal finished first in the 4x400m relay with a time of 4:21.87. The 4x800m relay team of Kwynn Krause, Madeline Hoehn, Ava Krause and Wolff then combined to finish first with a time of 10:45.58.

    In the shot put, Aubrey Weedman set a PR with a throw of 34 feet and 3.5 inches to claim third before earning fifth in the discus with a mark of 87’6”. In the long jump, Lilly Strauss finished second with a leap of 16’9” while Katelyn Olson finished fifth with a mark of 15’3.5”.

    Highlights for the boys began with Isaiah Berndt and Daulton Bauer posting PR times of 11.66 and 11.73 respectively in the 100m dash to finish third and fifth. In the 200m dash, Berndt and Bauer once again posted PR times of 23.61 and 23.83 to finish fourth and fifth.

    In the 800m run, Alex Kleve finished first with a season-best time of 2:13.17 while Tyson Kronbach (2:15.50) and Gavin Weedman (2:25.49) claimed second and fifth. In the 3200m run, Teagan Mulder finished third with a time of 11:46.94 while Luke Cahill finished fifth with a time of 12:12.50.

    The 4x100m relay team of Dylan McWaters, Berndt, Bauer and Ryan Kronbach finished first with a time of 44.85 while the team of Alex James, Memphis James, McWaters and Ethan Born finished second in the 4x200m relay with a time of 1:38.75. The 4x800m relay team of Derek Gustafson, T. Kronbach, Kleve and M. James finished first with a time of 9:07.31.

    In the high jump, Ryan Kronbach finished third with a clear of 6’2” while M. James finished fourth with a jump of 5’10”. Cahill finished fifth in the pole vault with a PR clear of 10’6”.

    Ryan Kronbach finished second in the long jump with a top leap of 20’4.5” before finishing first in the triple jump with a mark of 42’0.75”. Also in the triple jump, Bauer (39’3”) and M. James (37’8.25”) finished second and fifth.

    The JWP track and field team will return to action Thursday, May 16, when it travels to Waseca for an Invitational scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.

    The girls will then get back in action Saturday, May 18, when the squad travels to Stillwater H.S. to compete in the State True Team Championship. Field events for Class A will begin at 10 a.m. with running scheduled to start at 10:15 a.m.
