    Bluejays and Bulldogs track and field do battle in Waseca

    Thursday evening, the Waseca Bluejays track and field program hosted six other schools including Janesville-Waldorf Pemberton in the final home invitational this season. The Bluejays boys and girls teams both earned first-place finishes while the Bulldogs boys finished second and their girls, with many individuals held out in advance of State True Team Tournament, finished seventh.

    The highlights for the girls team began with Gabriela Lopez earning second in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.45. In the 800m run, Stella Omtvedt and Callie Dufault finished first and second with PR times of 2:29.28 and 2:31.82 respectively.

    Omtvedt then finished first in the 1600m run with a PR time of 5:34.88 before Vivian Mader earned first in the 100m hurdles with a time of 17.51. In the 300m hurdles, Brooklyn Flatau finished first with a time of 48.20 with Bella Wikan (48.83) and Mader (52.49) finishing second and fourth respectively.

    The 4x400m relay team of Evelyn O’Brien, Wikan, Dufault and Omtvedt finished second in the 4x400m relay race with a time of 4:20.30. The 4x800m relay race saw Dufault, O’Brien, Kelsey Draeger and Violet Rowher claimed second with a time of 11:08.16.

    In the shot put, Kalea Sartori finished second with a throw of 35 feet and 0.5 inches while Sierra Krause finished fourth with a PR throw of 29’11”. Sartori then finished first in the discus with a top throw of 106’.

    In the high jump, Savanna Vagts finished first with a PR clear of 4’8” while Marquez also cleared 4’8” to finish fourth based on number of attempts. Flatau finished second in the pole vault with a PR clear of 9’ before she earned second in the long jump with a leap of 16’4’.

    In the triple jump, Marquez posted a PR mark of 29’2.5”

    For the boys, highlights began in the 100m dash where Damarius Russell (11.33) and Kaeden Johnson (11.39) finished first and second while Jordan Johnston posted a season-best time of 12.16 to finish fifth. In the 400m dash, Brady Tlougan finished fourth with a PR time of 53.55.

    Isaac Feldkamp finished first in the 800m run with a PR time of 2:06.60 before he claimed second in the 1600m with a time of 4:47.79. In the 3200m run, Tristan Godwin posted a PR time of 11:30.11 to finish fourth. Carson Ohnstad finished first in the 300m hurdles with a PR time of 43.36.

    In the 4x100m relay ace, the team of Cash Lynch, Jonah Worke, Tlougan and Johnston finished second with a time of 46.09. Tlougan, Ohnstad, Wyatt Hager and Russell finished first in the 4x400m relay race with a time of 3:33.66.

    The shot put saw Javonn Rodney finish first with a PR throw of 42’11.5” with Tauston Rupe (42’, PR) and Ethan Stenzel (41’7”) finishing third and fourth. Waseca then saw its throwers earn four of the top five finishes in discus led by Stenzel (first, 144’2”, PR), Hager (second, 133’1”, PR), Rodney (third, 129’10”, PR) and Rupe (fifth, 116’).

    William Mansfield finished first in the pole vault with a top clear of 13’ with Tristan Godwin finishing fifth with a mark of 10’.

    Waseca track and field will return to action Tuesday, May 21 with a trip to Fairmont for the Big South Championships which will begin at 4 p.m.

    The Bulldogs girls team saw MaKenzie Westphal earn fifth in the 200m dash with a PR time of 28.49.

    For the boys team, highlights began with Isaiah Berndt earning fourth in the 200m dash with a PR time of 23.50. In the 800m run, Luke Cahil finished third with a time of 2:22.50 with Gavin Weedman earning fifth with a PR time of 2:24.92.

    Alex Kleve posted a season-best time of 5:09.99 to finish fourth in the 1600m run. In the 110m hurdles, Kaden Baker and Dylan McWaters finished first and second with PR times of 18.24 and 19.18 respectively.

    Baker (45.99) then finished third in the 300m hurdles with Ethan Born (46.31) claiming fourth.

    In the 4x100m relay race, McWaters, Berndt, Daulton Bauer and Ryan Kronbach finished first with a time of 44.68 before the same team combined to finish first in the 4x200m relay race with a time of 1:33.11.

    In the 4x800m relay race, the team of Teagan Mulder, Cahill, Alex Kleve and Tsyon Kronbach finished second with a time of 9:09.05.

    In the high jump, R. Kronbach finished first with a clear of 6’2” while Memphis James finished second with a mark of 5’10”. Isaac Gahlon finished second in the pole vault with a clear of 11’ while Cahill finished fourth with a mark of 10’6”.

    McWaters finished second in the long jump with a season-best leap of 18’1” while R. Kronbach and Bauer finished first and fifth in the triple jump with leaps of 43’5.5” and 36’11” respectively.

    JWP track and field will return to action Thursday, May 23, when the team travels to USC H.S. for the subsection meet which is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
