After earning a 5-4 victory over Maple River to begin the week, the first win of the 2024 campaign, the Waseca Bluejays softball team closed its season Thursday and Friday with home matchups against Tri-City United and Rochester Lourdes.

An explosive Titan offense led TCU to a 20-1 victory before a more the Eagles offense was held to six runs in a 6-1 loss for the Bluejays.

With the losses, Waseca’s regular season ends with a record of 1-18, earning the team the No. 15 seed in the Section 2AA Softball Tournament.

    Tri-City United — 20, Waseca — 1

Things started slow Thursday evening after TCU scored a first-inning run that made the score 1-0, a score that would remain until the top of the fourth inning. The Titans tacked on four more runs before Waseca responded with a run of its own in the bottom of the fourth.

A leadoff single from Lily Owens was followed by a Madison Roessler RBI double to center that brought Owens across home plate. The Titans offense resounded with a pair of runs in the fifth and another run in the sixth before exploding for 12 runs in the top of the seventh, resulting in the 20-1 loss for the Jays.

    Rochester Lourdes — 6, Waseca — 1

When facing the Eagles, Waseca struck first with a run in the bottom of the first inning when Avery Barton drilled a single to left to score Siri Kuhns from third. Rochester Lourdes responded with the tying run in the top of the second before three runs in the third gave them a 4-1 lead. Two final runs came in the top of the sixth as the Eagles earned the 6-1 win.

The Bluejays travel to Belle Plaine Tuesday, May 21, to take on the Tigers in the first round of the Section 2AA Softball tournament. The victor will return to action Thursday night and face the winner between Maple River and Waterville-Elysian-Morristown.
