Waseca woman accused of robbing camper, cars at county fair

    2024-07-27

A Waseca woman is facing a felony burglary charge and two misdemeanors after Waseca County Sheriff’s Deputies say she attempted to rob a camper-trailer and several vehicles at the Waseca County Free Fair.

Stacy Anne Evenson, 65, was charged with second degree burglary in Waseca County District Court on July 15, two days after Sheriff’s Office deputies who were assisting with the fair confronted her after a woman screamed that someone was in their camper and stealing items.

According to the complaint, deputies observed a truck near the camper with doors open and items on the ground near the doors. They patted down Evenson, finding $14 in cash, a large amount of coins, a bank card that was not hers and sunglasses which were allegedly stolen as well.

The camper’s owner stated that brought a friend to her camper to show it to her. Much to her surprise, she reported seeing an unfamiliar and unauthorized stranger in the camper, and said that items appeared to be on the ground and looked as though they had been gone through.

Subsequently, two other individuals came forward with reports that their purses, wallets and other valuables appeared to have been stolen from their vehicles earlier in the day. After executing a search warrant at Evenson’s residence, officers found purses and wallets dumped on her bed, including multiple items connected to the reported thefts.

Intoxication appears to have been a possible factor, as while detained at the camper-trailer, Evenson took a PBT which came out to .14. She also admitted to taking non-prescription benzodiazepines earlier in the day.

If convicted of the second degree burglary charge over the camper incident, Evenson could face up to 10 years in jail and/or a $20,000 fine. The two misdemeanors are tied to the alleged car thefts and come with much lighter potential sentences.
