In late June, the Mayo Clinic Health System clinic building in New Richland experienced significant damage from weather-related flooding, which resulted in a temporary closure. After a thorough assessment, Mayo Clinic Health System has determined that the building is no longer safe for staff or patient care and will not reopen.

The news came the same day as the announcement that the Waterville Mayo Clinic also will not reopen.

“Providing safe, high quality experiences for our patients is paramount,” says Robert Albright, Jr., D.O., regional vice president of Mayo Clinic Health System in Southeast Minnesota. “We are confident that we will continue meeting the needs of patients at our nearby locations in Albert Lea and Wells, as well as through virtual care options.”

Staff previously providing care at the New Richland clinic transitioned to Mayo Clinic Health System’s Albert Lea and Wells locations, and New Richland patients have been receiving in-person care there. The nurse practitioner will continue to work in Albert Lea and Wells permanently while the additional team members will be offered other roles. Patients also have access to many convenient care options beyond traditional face-to-face visits, including the newly launched Primary Care On Demand app, which offers access to a primary care physician 24 hours a day, seven days a week — including holidays and weekends.

Mayo Clinic Health System will provide customized support to New Richland patients who are transitioning their care.
