The Waseca Bluejays girls soccer team had a busy last week, as they played three games in a span of four days, now well into their 2024 campaign.

The Bluejays started the season 4-0 and suffered their first loss against St. Peter last week in a 2-1 battle, which was their third road game in a row. They returned back to their home field last Friday to play three straight games at home.

Their Monday night game to start the three-game week was against the Fairmont Cardinals. It was a tight battle, as the two teams headed into halftime tied at 1.

The Bluejays had a good chance at a goal six minutes into the second half, but Fairmont’s goalkeeper was able to snatch it. Fairmont then scored to take a 2-1 lead 13 minutes into the second.

But the Bluejays answered right away, as a goal by Gabriella Lopez tied it up at two.

Ten minutes later, the Cardinals regained the lead. While it took just under two minutes for the Bluejays to tie the game at 2, it took them about eight minutes to tie the game up at 3 after Fairmont’s goal. Gabriella’s sister Angelica had the goal after missing an opportunity to tie it up two minutes before.

The two teams battled to the end, but neither was able to score a goal, resulting in a 3-3 tie to end the game.

The Bluejays returned to their field the next night to face conference opponent Tri-City United. The Titans were no match for the Bluejays, as Waseca dominated to win 9-0.

Thursday was a similar story for the Bluejays, as they faced the Worthington Trojans and had their way from the beginning. The Bluejays picked up their second straight shutout victory, winning 8-0.

Waseca will look to continue their dominance as they face the Byron Bears on Monday night. They will travel to Madelia on Tuesday to face off against Wings United before returning home Thursday to face New Ulm.
