With just one more week of regular season action, the Waseca Bluejays volleyball team is coming off of a crucial win over Blue Earth that puts it in good position to end the season on top of the Big South East division.

The Bluejays had two matches last week, losing to Jordan in a sweep at home on Tuesday, Oct. 1 before winning in a thriller on the road against Blue Earth Thursday, Oct. 3.

The non-conference home match against the Jordan Jaguars had the Jaguars have the advantage over the Bluejays throughout the entire match, as the Bluejays lost 25-20 in both the first and second set.

While they were still in the contest in the first couple sets, the third set saw Jordan pull away as the Bluejays had no answer for them. The Jaguars won the third set 25-10 to complete the sweep.

The Bluejays traveled to Blue Earth on Thursday night for a conference and division matchup against the Buccaneers. It looked like the Bluejays were going to have the same fate as Tuesday night, as they fell behind 2-0 right away after the first two sets.

The first set was close at 25-22 while the Buccaneers had their way in the second set, winning 25-16. But the Bluejays adjusted after their slow start and switched things up, which ended up working.

After winning the third set 25-19, the Bluejays won the fourth 25-21 to force a fifth set against the Buccaneers. The fifth set was a back-and-forth battle between the two teams, but the Bluejays were able to take the set 18-16 and win over the Buccaneers 3-2.

The win over Blue Earth puts the Bluejays at 14-7 overall in the season and 6-1 in conference play. They sit in first place in the Big South East division, with them facing second place Belle Plain on Tuesday, Oct. 8 on the road. Belle Plain is 5-0 in conference play. The Bluejays will return home on Thursday for their final regular season game against Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial.
