    Braves defense limits Morries to a pair of runs in 4-2 victory

    Saturday afternoon, the Waseca Braves made the short trip to Morristown for a a showdown with the hard-hitting Morries. The defense for Waseca shined throughout the game as the Braves managed limit Morristown to just two runs despite baserunners reaching in all but one inning, and Kelvin Nelson earned the complete game victory on the mound with Waseca earning a 4-2 victory.

    In the top of the first inning, Griffin Krautkremer led off with a single ripped into right centerfield before Chris Glynn and Kelvin Nelson were hit by pitches to load the bases. Jimmy Loonan cashed in a pair of runners with a hard hit single to left field that put the Braves up 2-0.

    In the bottom of the first inning, Ben Lamont drew a leadoff walk and was pushed to second with a single up the middle from Matt Saemrow with two outs, but a popup to shortstop ended the threat.

    Blake Nelson led off the top of the second inning with a walk but a bunt attempt was fielded by Morries pitcher Tate Harmon who was able to quickly turn and make the throw to second to get the lead runner. Kyle Waugh, advanced to second on a wild pitch before being pushed to third on a fielder’s choice to second and Glynn brought him home on an RBI single to shallow centerfield.

    In the bottom of the second, Morristown’s leadoff hitter sent a sharp grounder towards second base but veteran Blake Nelson made a ranging snag before twisting the throw over to first for the out. The final run for Waseca came in the top of the fourth inning with B. Nelson hitting a leadoff single before eventually being brought home by his son, Kelvin, who lifted an RBI bloop single into shallow centerfield.

    The Morries were able to string together several hits in the bottom of the eighth when Bradley Van Deinse’s leadoff single was cashed in by an RBI double from Tate Harmon that one hopped into the centerfield fence. Two batters later, Dylan Tomlinson ripped an RBI single to right field to cut the Waseca lead to 4-2. In the bottom of the ninth, Morristown was able to get a single runner on base with a single to right, but they ultimately stranded with a pair of flyouts to center and right field, securing the Braves win.
