The Waseca American Legion baseball team traveled to Owatonna last week to take on the Post 77 team.

While the game ultimately did not end in their favor, Waseca put up a great fight, as it was a back-and-forth game all the way through. The game was tied at 5 in the sixth, but a run scored by Owatonna in the inning put them ahead of Waseca and ended up winning by a score of 6-5.

Both teams had a scoreless first inning as Waseca’s Tyson Reger got out of the bottom half of the inning after allowing a leadoff single. Reger pitched the entirety of the game for Waseca, allowing six runs and six hits in six innings of work.

Owatonna was the first to score, as they scored three in the bottom of the second to take the early lead.

Waseca responded with three runs of their own in the top of the third. Jacob Thompson started the inning with an infield base hit. The next two batters were retired by Owatonna’s Tayte Berg, but Waseca went on a two-out rally to score the three runs.

Reger was hit by a pitch and Kedrik Volkmann singled to allow Thompson to score. Two runs were then scored after that due to great baserunning by Waseca and a wild pitch to tie the game up at 3.

Owatonna scored two in the fourth inning, but Waseca scored two in the sixth to once again tie the game up. Keato Roeker scored on a double by Nate Engel-Mueller and Engel-Mueller scored on a single by Aiden Shoemaker.

The bases were loaded for Waseca when Owatonna changed their pitcher, but Mitch Seykora struck out the Titus Mokoff for the final out of the inning.

Owatonna scored one run in the sixth, and Waseca was unable to answer in the top of the seventh as Seykora retired the side in order. Waseca lost to Owatonna 6-5 and fell to a 5-5 record on the season.

Waseca has a busy week ahead as they face Wanamingo on Monday, New Ulm on Tuesday, and Janesville on Thursday in a double-header match-up. All games are at Tink Larson Field in Waseca.
