Emergency family shelter for homeless in Sacramento to close in September
SACRAMENTO – An emergency family shelter for homeless people in Sacramento will be closing in September, the county said Wednesday. The family shelter on Bannon Street, which currently is housing more than a dozen families, will be closing on Sept. 7. Sacramento County funds the program that Volunteers of America (VOA) runs. The VOA has leased the building from the City of Sacramento since 2017. But now the county says the building, which was built in the 1970s, has major plumbing and sewer issues that cannot be fixed. 2 arrested in California for shooting, killing man in North Las Vegas
LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) - North Las Vegas police accuse two men for the shooting and killing a man back in October 2023. Police said the deadly shooting happened on Saturday, Oct. 27 around 1:30 a.m. in the 4200 block of East Craig Road. (AP) — Ben Silverman birdied seven of his last nine holes and scored 19 points to take the lead Thursday in the Barracuda Championship, the only PGA Tour event that uses the modified Stableford scoring system. Silverman — the 36-year-old Canadian seeking his first PGA Tour victory — had 10 birdies and a bogey on Tahoe Mountain Club’s tree-lined Old Greenwood layout for a two-point lead over Kelly Kraft. Players receive eight points for a double eagle, five for eagle and two for birdie. A point is deducted for bogey and three for double bogey. Kraft eagled the par-5 third and had seven birdies and two bogeys. Nate Lashley was third with 15 points, and Sam Ryder and S.H. Kim had 14.

Teen found fatally shot in Vallejo overnight in city's 12th homicide of the year
Police in Vallejo have launched a homicide investigation after a teen died following a shooting late Wednesday night.Around 11:30 p.m., officers were called to the 100 block of Carolina Street. When police arrived, they found a 16-year-old male suffering from at least one gunshot wound.Officers along with medical personnel provided medical aid, but the teen succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.Police have not released the victim's identity. SACRAMENTO – Governor Gavin Newsom today announced the following appointments:. Marc LeForestier, of Sacramento, has been appointed General Counsel at the Department of Cannabis Control. LeForestier has been General Counsel at the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office since 2017. He was a Supervising Deputy Attorney General in the Government Law Section at the California Department of Justice, Office of the Attorney General from 2013 to 2017 and served in several roles there from 2000 to 2013, including Supervising Deputy Attorney General, Director of Legislative Affairs and Deputy Attorney General. He is a member of the California State Bar, Public Law Section. LeForestier earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Toronto and a Juris Doctor degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Law. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $204,996. LeForestier is registered without party preference.
