ARLINGTON, V.A. — The Washington Capitals are putting in work ahead of the 2024-25 regular season, as several current and former players continue to take over MedStar Capitals Iceplex for informal skates.

More familiar faces arrived in Arlington on Monday to take part in the workout sessions, led by goaltending coach Scott Murray and alternate captain John Carlson.

Prospects Vincent Iorio and Alex Limoges were the latest members of the team to join the group, which consists of current Capitals Carlson, Alex Alexeyev, Matt Roy, Pierre-Luc Dubois and Logan Thompson.

Former teammate Lars Eller also skated with the group, while Nicolas Aube-Kubel, Anthony Mantha and Nick Jensen were also present again for the skate.

Free agent invites Ayo Adeniye, Eric Charpentier and Duncan Ramsay, who were part of Washington's development camp in July, also skated on Monday, along with a handful of other junior players.

Monday's workout was a busy one, as the players got started with some passing and small-area drills before getting into a scrimmage and full-length skating. Head coach Spencer Carbery was also present off the ice, taking in the skate from the mezzanine.

One player that's standing out at these skates is Dubois. It's easy to see that the 26-year-old is putting the work in ahead of training camp, as he looks to have a bounce-back season following his trade to the District from Los Angeles.

Two things stand out watching Dubois: his size (6-foot-4, 225 pounds) and his skating ability. He's very strong on his edges, positions himself well, plays a complete game and takes good care of the puck.

Roy is also making a strong impression. The 29-year-old defenseman inked a six-year deal to join the Capitals after spending the first part of his career in L.A., and it's clear why D.C. picked him up. He brings speed and aplomb to the backend, and he plays a smart, safe game while being able to move the puck and join the rush.

Two more defensemen to keep an eye on: Iorio and Adeniye. Iorio's clearly been working on his strength and skating, as those were on display at Monday's skate. He was injured in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs with the Capitals nad was also ailing to close out his season with the Calder Cup-winning Hershey Bears, so it was a positive sign to see him moving well on the ice.

Adeniye, who earned himself an invite to Capitals camp in July and appears set to return for rookie camp, was physical and aggressive in drills, and he was among the last men standing for the skate test portion of the practice session.

Overall, it was a productive skate before several key names headed out to tee off in Jensen's Swing Fore the Future charity golf tournament in Virginia.

Informal skates will continue leading up to the start of training camp in September.
