Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin is well-prepared for what will be his 20th NHL season, as his agent said he is in good shape and looking forward to the 2023-24 campaign.

Ovechkin's agent, Gleb Chistyakov, told Metaratings.ru that Ovechkin has been training on schedule and is doing well ahead of the year.

"I believe that Alexander is in good shape," Chistyakov said, per a DeepL translation. "He is ready for the season, he knows his schedule. So far, everything's good, everything's going according to plan."

Ovechkin is set to return to the United States from Russia in early September and has been busy training both on and off the ice for the year.

"His health is fine, he trains every day," Chistyakov said.

Ovechkin also spent time training alongside Russian athletes set to compete in the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris and said he was impressed by their passion and dedication.

"I trained in Novorgorsk with the guys from the Russian Paralympic team, we trained at the same facility. I saw how they were training before their trip to Paris, and you know what I noticed right away? The way their eyes lit up," Ovechkin told Match.TV , per a DeepL translation.

The soon-to-be 39-year-old faces a tall task this season as he looks to not only continue his pursuit of Wayne Gretzky's all-time scoring record but to help his team turn into a legitimate contender after a busy offseason.

Ovechkin currently sits at 853 career goals, putting him 42 away from Gretzky's all-time scoring record.
