ARLINGTON, V.A. — The Washington Capitals will have quite the ensemble when they take the ice for their first on-ice session of training camp on Thursday, as the team announced its 72-man roster on Tuesday.

Washington's roster includes a mix of veterans, rising prospects and free agent invites.

Nicklas Backstrom, who spent last season on the long-term injured reserve and has stepped away from the game due to chronic hip issues, is listed on the roster, as is T.J. Oshie, whose status remains unclear as he ponders his future amid chronic back pain. Both remain under contract in D.C., though, even though their statuses are unclear at this time.

Neither Backstrom nor Oshie are speaking to the media on Thursday. Veterans undergo physicals and off-ice testing on Wednesday before the first on-ice sessions.

Along with the mix of veterans, draft picks and Hershey Bears and South Carolina Stingrays skaters, a number of free agents also earned an invitation to main camp.

Oasiz Wiesblatt and Ayodele Adeniye, who both took part in the Capitals' development and rookie camps, are taking part in the training camp and will look to earn pro deals for the upcoming season.
