Truck hits overpass in Pennsylvania 02:26

WEST BROWNSVILLE, Pa. (KDKA) -- A truck hit an overpass in Washington County on Wednesday, temporarily shutting down a section of Route 40.

Route 40 has since reopened in both directions between Route 43 in California and Route 88/Blaine Hill Road in West Brownsville, PennDOT said. There's a single-lane restriction for the Knobb Road overpass between Wilson Road and Old National Pike.

The dump truck driver left the bed up after dumping material, causing it to become wedged up against the overpass, PennDOT said. The cab was separated from the rest of the truck, and photos show its back wheels draped over the median.

"He said he was dumping a load of stone about 300 yards up the road from where we are at now," West Brownsville Volunteer Fire Company #1 Chief Todd King said. "He left, his bed was up and drove with it up in the air."

King said other drivers tried to stop the truck driver but nothing worked.

There was minimal damage to the bridge, but it will require more investigation. No one was injured.

"It was completely wedged a few inches into the beam," said Rachel Duda, district executive for PennDOT District 12.

PennDOT said motorists should still use caution when traveling through the area.
