Government offices to be closed for Fourth of July holiday
Government offices in the city of Johnson City, town of Jonesborough and Washington County will be closed Thursday in observance of the Independence Day holiday. Johnson City’s municipal offices will reopen on their regular schedules on Friday.
Power bills to increase for Brightridge customers
BrightRidge announced Wednesday it approved a 1.5% electric rate increase. BrightRidge said the increase, which comes after six years of high inflation without a raise in rates, will help it balance its 2025 fiscal year budget. According to BrightRidge, the rate increase for residential and small commercial customers will include a $2 per month increase in the base energy charge and a slight increase per kWh. BrightRidge Broadband rates will stay the same due to strong customer growth in the fiscal year and expansion into areas, including Colonial Heights and rural areas in Washington County. The increase for electric will start in October.
Region celebrates 75 years with 'Dr. Enuf Day'
Dr. Enuf commemorated 75 years of business in Northeast Tennessee with a special celebration inside the Johnson City Visitors Center on Thursday, June 27. The drink was also honored at this month's Washington County Commission meeting on Wednesday, June 26, with a proclamation naming June 27, 2024, as "Dr. Enuf Day in Washington County."
Washington County officials approve capital outlay notes
Washington County commissioners voted Wednesday to issue up to $5 million in capital outlay notes to cover the cost to purchase and make improvements to the former Citi Solutions Center building in Gray. People Inc. to receive $3.4 Million grant
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recently awarded People Inc. 3.4 million dollars for its Head Start Program. This grant will help Buchanan, Dickenson, Russell, and Washington Counties as well as the City of Bristol. The Head Start Program supports children up the three years old and prepares them for their future education.
