On Saturday, October 5, the City of Washington will host the second annual Hispanic Heritage Month Festival. The event will feature live Mariachi music and entertainment with traditional dancers, food trucks serving authentic Mexican food, and information booths by the festival partners.

“This is a great way to celebrate and highlight the beauty of the Latino culture, which is such a growing community here in Washington and Beaufort County,” said Abigail Cabrera, Latino community outreach coordinator for the City of Washington. “Through the vision of our director of police and fire safety, Stacy Drakeford, we were able to create an event that says to our Latino community that we see you, hear you, and celebrate you. For those who are not part of the community, it will allow them to learn a bit more about the culture. For those who are, it’s an opportunity to embrace and celebrate it.”

Washington Mayor Donald Sadler expressed his extreme gratitude to the public safety department for having the foresight to create such an important event for the city. “This event allows our Latino community to know that we see and value them,” said Sadler. “It is all about inclusivity and making sure our Latino residents understand they are such an important fabric in our community.

The event will be from 2 p.m. – 6 p.m. at Mac “Bear” Hodges Festival Park (119 Water Street). Everyone is invited to come out and enjoy.
