WASHINGTON ( DC News Now ) — A barrage of gunfire was caught on camera in Southeast D.C. on Sunday night.

Bullets hit several homes in the Hill East neighborhood and went through at least one bedroom wall.

It happened just before 11 p.m. on Sunday night and neighbors said they’re fed up with the violence.

In Ring doorbell video obtained by DC News Now, four gunmen can be seen running down 17th St., just south of Independence Ave., hiding behind several cars. Some of the bullets flying back and forth went into several houses. About a dozen shots were heard in the video.

There were no reports of any injuries but some neighbors ducked for cover in their own homes as they heard the barrage of bullets.

“It’s about safety in your own home. And I think many of us are not feeling safe anymore,” said Jenna Sangastiano.

Sangastiano didn’t realize until Monday morning that the back of her house was hit three times.

“I have a five and eight-year-old. And I think one of the things is that we always saw a lot of value in raising them in the city,” Sangastiano said. “And we don’t want to move from the city because of this, but it is really compromising safety.”

Another neighbor who didn’t want to be identified thought she heard fireworks. But when she went to bed she saw wood on the floor in her bedroom, noticing the baseboard.

“I find…the baseboard in my outside wall – it’s been blasted open. And then I look over and there’s a hole in the wall from a bullet,” the woman said.

She said her parked car was hit by gunfire last summer and in the neighborhood, it’s a common occurrence.

“We’ve had it at 17th and Independence a couple of times. We’ve had it at 18th. And the fact is that, you know, I lived during the crack era, but the guns are worse now,” she said.

    She wants action from leaders.

“I know that the city council is trying to do something about it, but they are hampered by Congress and Congress needs to do something about it,” she said.

D.C. Police have not released any information about possible suspects or any potential getaway vehicles. If you have any information, call police at 202-727-9099.

The woman interviewed knows what she’s talking about. It’s not local but Congress who has a hold on DC.
