Two More Capitals Prospects & 2023 Draft Picks To Make AHL Jump, Join Hershey Bears On Tryouts

The Washington Capitals are seeing more prospects join the organization, as defenseman Cam Allen and forward Brett Hyland have both signed amateur tryouts to join the AHL's Hershey Bears.

Both players saw their junior seasons come to an end and will join Hershey to close out the season and serve as "black aces" as Hershey looks to defend its Calder Cup title.

Allen, who was taken in the fifth round of this year's NHL draft, missed the start of the OHL's Guelph Storm's season after undergoing shoulder surgery in August. He made his return to the lineup in January and finished the campaign with two goals and seven assists in 25 games.

Hyland, meanwhile, had an impressive bounce-back campaign with the WHL's Brandon Wheat Kings and managed 32 goals and 27 assists for 259 points in 66 games after knee surgery cut his 2022-23 campaign short. Despite the injury, he was taken in the seventh round of the 2023 NHL Draft by Washington.'

Both players offer more depth to the Bears, who have some of their top players up with the Capitals as they continue a playoff push.

Mike Sgarbossa, who was the team's leading scorer before his call-up, has remained up with the big club, along with Hendrix Lapierre and Ivan Miroshnichenko.

On the backend, Vincent Iorio and Lucas Johansen are also up with D.C. with Ethan Bear receiving care from the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program and Rasmus Sandin potentially out for the rest of the regular season with an upper-body injury.

Allen and Hyland join Haakon Hanelt, who signed a professional tryout to join Hershey last week.
