The Washington Capitals didn't kick off the first round the way they wanted to against the New York Rangers, and they'll be looking to bounce back and even the series on Tuesday in Game 2.

Here is everything to know before puck drop at Madison Square Garden at 7 p.m.

    Washington Capitals Line Combinations

Washington could make some changes up front in order to get more going offensively, but the same forwards are expected to dress for Tuesday's showdown.

Meanwhile, the blue line will look different once again, as the team remains shorthanded with Nick Jensen and Rasmus Sandin still out and Vincent Iorio joining the injured list. Lucas Johansen will make his Stanley Cup Playoffs debut.

    Charlie Lindgren will start again.

    Here are the lines:

    Alex Ovechkin-Connor McMichael-T.J. Oshie

    Aliaksei Protas-Dylan Strome-Tom Wilson

    Washington Capitals Injury Report

    - Nick Jensen remains out for Game 2. He has been making progress as he works his way back from an upper-body injury, but has not shed the non-contact jersey. He was stretchered off the ice on April 13 against the Tampa Bay Lightning after a heavy hit into the boards from forward Michael Eyssimont.

    - Rasmus Sandin is also out for Game 2 after being hurt on a big hit by Parker Kelly back on April 7 against the Ottawa Senators. He is also still in a non-contact jersey.

    - Vincent Iorio is out and listed day-to-day with an upper-body injury after being hit into the boards in Game 1 by Alexis Lafreniere.

    - Nicklas Backstrom remains on indefinite leave after stepping away from the game of hockey in November with his hip not responding as he'd hoped following hip resurfacing surgery in June 2022.

    Washington Capitals Storylines

    - Martin Fehervary scored his first career NHL playoff goal on Sunday, which was the lone goal for D.C.

    - Tom Wilson received praise from his teammates for his showing in Game 1, which included an assist, two hits, one block and 12 penalty minutes through 20:56 minutes.

    - Aliaksei Protas also had an assist and led the team with six shots.

    - Washington is looking for a much-needed spark on offense, especially on the power play; the Capitals went 0-for-4 on the man advantage and were also outshot 31-21 in Game 1. Alex Ovechkin and Dylan Strome are also hungry to bounce back, so keep an eye on them.

    - Dylan McIlrath, Beck Malenstyn and Washington will be looking for ways to shut down Matt Rempe without getting out of structure or letting him get too far under their skin; the fourth-line enforcer was a thorn in D.C.'s side on Sunday.
