WASHINGTON — Going into Game 4 against the New York Rangers, the Washington Capitals find themselves in a spot they've been at multiple times this season: their backs against the wall and fighting to keep their season alive.

Here's everything to know before puck drop as the Capitals look to extend the series and avoid a sweep.

    Washington Capitals Line Combinations

Washington will tweak some things and get a major boost, as Rasmus Sandin and Nick Jensen will make their long-awaited returns to the lineup after sitting out since early April due to injuries following big hits along the boards.

Up front, Nicolas Aube-Kubel will draw back in after sitting for Ivan Miroshnichenko last game. The lines also get a makeover, with Hendrix Lapierre being reunited with Alex Ovechkin on the top line.

    Charlie Lindgren will start again.

    Here are the lines:

    Alex Ovechkin-Hendrix Lapierre-Sonny Milano

    Aliaksei Protas-Dylan Strome-Tom Wilson

    Max Pacioretty-Connor McMichael-T.J. Oshie

    Beck Malenstyn-Nic Dowd-Nicolas Aube-Kubel

    Martin Fehervary-John Carlson

    Rasmus Sandin-Dylan McIlrath

    Alex Alexeyev-Nick Jensen

    Washington Capitals Injury Report

    - Trevor van Riemsdyk is out with an upper-body injury after being hit up high in Game 3 by Matt Rempe. He has not skated.

    - Vincent Iorio is out and listed day-to-day with an upper-body injury after being hit into the boards in Game 1 by Alexis Lafreniere. He has been skating in a non-contact jersey.

    - Nicklas Backstrom remains on indefinite leave after stepping away from the game of hockey in November with his hip not responding as he'd hoped following hip resurfacing surgery in June 2022.

    Washington Capitals Storylines

    - Tom Wilson leads the Capitals with three points through the first three games of the playoffs. Wilson was trying to up the ante last game and get into it with the likes of Rempe, so that's a storyline to watch.

    - John Carlson led all Capitals in ice time (30:30 minutes) last game and had D.C.'s lone goal while posting points in back-to-back games this postseason.

    - Alex Ovechkin is looking to turn it on and find the scoresheet after being limited to just 5 shots through the first three games of the series against the Rangers.

    - Martin Fehervary also has two points in three playoff games this postseason.
