The Washington Capitals saw their players' runs at the IIHF World Championship come to an end on Thursday, as Team USA and Team Slovakia were both eliminated in the quarterfinals.

Charlie Lindgren and Ryan Leonard were representing the United States, while Martin Fehervary was playing for his home country of Slovakia.

Lindgren put on a show in the final game of the tournament against Czechia, stopping 27 of 28 shots for the Americans, but it wasn't enough in a 1-0 shutout loss.

The 30-year-old netminder finished the tournament with a .931 save percentage after being a late add for Team USA. Lindgren originally turned down the invite for Worlds, but joined after an injury to Alex Lyon.

Capitals prospect Ryan Leonard dressed for Team USA, again as an extra forward, but didn't get much ice time as his team rallied for a tie. He finished the tournament with one assist.

Fehervary, meanwhile, led the Slovaks in ice time in their game against Canada, an eventual 6-3 loss. He skated 22:57 minutes and earned player of the game honors for his performance on the backend. In eight games at Worlds this year, he had a goal and assist and four penalty minutes.
