The Washington Capitals have some decisions to make going into the 2024 NHL Draft and hold the No. 17 selection, and a top option up for grabs is Michael Hage.

Hage, who played for the USHL's Chicago Steel, is the 19th-ranked North American skater by NHL Central Scouting, and he is projected to go in the mid-to-late first round of the draft. With Hage, Washington would get a big-time playmaker who can pay off in a big way.

The 6-1, 190-pound center appeared in 54 games for the Steel this season, posting 33 goals and 42 assists for 75 points, along with a plus/minus rating of plus-17.

Regarding Hage, his biggest asset is his skating. He has an explosive stride and can make high-speed plays, and he's able to carry the puck up the ice, get the puck to those high-danger areas and make space for himself. Hage is also dangerous off the rush, has quick hands and can pull off picture-perfect passes, helping him generate quality chances shift after shift.

While he has ways to go when it comes to improving his shot, adding to his frame and getting better in his own zone, as well as staying healthy and staying disciplined, Hage has all of the tools available to be an impressive playmaker at the highest level.

He's a smart player who gets to the high-danger areas, tracks the puck and play well and displays good positioning. He is committed to the University of Michigan, where he will continue to grow his game in the NCAA.

For Washington, taking a chance on Hage would give the team another solid option at center and allow the club to continue to bolster its offense and prepare for a new era without Alex Ovechkin, and he could be an instrumental piece of the future core.
