JUNKIES: Which player atop the NBA Draft Board is a better fit for the Wizards?

We’re now just about three weeks away from the NBA Draft, so it’s crunch time for Will Dawkins and company to find the next superstar (or so they hope) to select at No. 2 – and unlike many years, where there’s a pretty clear No. 1, so it’s one or two prospects to weigh, this year is a flip-flop of two guys at the top based on personal preference.

“It does seem like there's more consensus on who is going to be in the Top 2, and that's really all Washington needs to care about initially, and now I’m seeing more of Zaccharie Risacher going No. 1 and Alexander Sarr at No. 2,” JP said, before Bish gave a quick primer of the two:

“Risache is more of a perimeter guy, more of a wing, and Sarr is 7-foot-1 and apparently his three-point shooting isn’t that great,” Bish said. “But they’re both 19.”

So, who do the Junkies think best fit the Wizards’ bill and should be the No. 2 pick, assuming they don’t go No. 1 to Atlanta?

“I like the potential of Sarr,” Drab said. “What’s interesting is those two have separated themselves; when we first started this, when we first got the second pick, there was talk of Stephon Castle or Donovan Clingan or a couple of different guys that might fit for them, but now the mocks coming back have those two guys 1-2 in some order. No matter what order they go in, they're separating themselves.

“If Sarr is the guy, he's definitely a rim protector and we need that,” EB said. “I know it's not sexy and I know it's a league full of three-point shooting, but this team hasn't played defense in 30 years.”

“The counter to that would be how much rim protection do you need if guys are just jacking up 30 ft shots all the time?” Cakes shot back. “I feel like that becomes less of a priority.”

“Look at the Finals right now, the Celtics play five guys outside the three-point line so you don't really need a rim protector there, but Dallas has a couple of guys, ironically Daniel Gafford being one of them, inside,” JP added. “They had a rim protector in Gafford, but he doesn’t provide that much offensively other than dunks. That works in Dallas because Kyrie and Luka are playmakers and they throw up lob passes and Gafford had that streak of 30 plus shots made in a row, but they were almost all dunks, so I would be less about the rim protection, I would just want a complete offensive player.”

JP noted that the NBA MVP has been won by one of three foreign-born players since 2018-19, even if three of those are Nikola Jokic, but international players ‘seem to be more complete offensively.’

“Yeah, and Sarr is more athletic than you think; he's doing spin moves, he's hitting threes in some of these highlights, he’s got a little turnaround,” EB said. “He’s got a lot to his game, and can do it all. He’s not just some big, dumb stiff.”

“Risacher is athletic, too, but man, he’s thin,” Bish shot back.
