RHEA COUNTY — Rhea County’s elected leaders in Washington, D.C., recently spoke out after former U.S. President Donald Trump was found guilty on 34 counts of falsifying business records.

“The New York courts continue to pursue cases and reach predetermined verdicts that would never be charged and tried with any other citizen,” U.S. Rep. Scott DesJarlais said. “This is political warfare that continues to frustrate and anger so many voters across this country and will likely only serve to solidify and embolden Donald Trump’s supporters.”

U.S. Sen. Marsha Blackburn recently released the following statement:

“Joe Biden and the radical left have made it clear they will do anything they can to keep President Trump out of the White House, and that ought to frighten every American,” said Senator Blackburn. “There was no way President Trump was going to get a fair trial in New York City with a liberal DA who campaigned on targeting him, a partisan judge who has donated to the Biden-Harris campaign, and a prosecutor who was a paid political consultant for the DNC and former top Biden DOJ official. This is an undemocratic and un-American weaponization of our justice system against Trump, who Joe Biden knows he can’t beat at the ballot box. If they can do this to a former President who will be the 2024 Republican nominee, they can do it to anyone. Today is a sad day for the American justice system and the American people—this is what you’d expect in places like Russia, China and North Korea, but not America.”

U.S. Sen. Bill Hagerty likewise said that he believes the trial was political.

“This trial has been a mockery of the American justice system. What the American public has seen is the Biden Administration willingly abusing the judicial system to go and attack their opponent. This made up crime, so to speak, is absolutely preposterous. What’s happened in New York is a travesty. What’s happened in Georgia is a travesty. What’s happening in Washington D.C. is a travesty,” Hagerty said. “We’ve never had an American President indicted, and here we have a president under five separate cases in multiple jurisdictions in an election year, all with a very clear motive. And that’s to beat a person on the judicial field because they can’t beat him at the ballot box. The American public sees right through this, David. Donald Trump is just the victim of Biden Administration policies and tactics to try to avoid going to the ballot box with Donald Trump.

“The American public wants to see this solved at the ballot box. That’s democracy. That’s the American way, and everything that’s happening today, what you’re seeing unfolding in New York, the politicization of all of this, even the Biden campaign having a campaign event in front of the courthouse shows that all what they’ve been saying all along, this is totally political.”
