Capitals Draft Targets: Cole Eiserman A Sharp-Shooter That Could Pay Off Big Time If Available At 17

The Washington Capitals are a team in transition that's not only getting younger and faster but wants to bolster its offence and prepare for the post-Alex Ovechkin era. What better way to do that than bringing in another impressive shot and there's one that could be available at 17 in the 2024 NHL Draft: Cole Eiserman.

Eiserman, who is ranked 12th among North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting, is known for his wicked shot and goal-scoring ability, as his 127 goals are the most in the history of the U.S. National Team Development Program.

He had 58 goals — 25 of them came on the power play — in 57 games this past season. He has great power and accuracy, which makes him a huge asset.

In addition to his elite shot, he skates well, and the 6-foot, 197-pound forward, can battle for pucks and isn't afraid to get to the high-danger areas. He knows how to put the puck in the net and also has good playmaking ability, and he's a threat off the rush.

Still, there are areas of his game that need work. Consistency is an issue, and when he's not scoring, he somewhat goes off the radar. He also needs to improve in his own end, and at times, he can be caught trying to do too much when it comes to his play with and without the puck. His positioning and attention to detail in all three zones also need some work.

Though there's work for him to do and areas to improve in, he's expected to continue developing on the right path, and he has the potential to be a top-line winger at the highest level. If Washington takes its time developing him, he can be a huge asset down the road, and if he's still available — in some areas, he's in the top 10 — he may pay off big time for the Capitals.
