BREAKING: Capitals Acquire Pierre-Luc Dubois From Kings For Darcy Kuemper In Big Trade

The Washington Capitals have officially acquired center Pierre-Luc Dubois from the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for goaltender Darcy Kuemper, general manager Brian MacLellan announced on Wednesday.

The trade is 1-for-1 with no salary retained on either side.

"This acquisition brings in a talented 25-year-old with immense potential to become a top-tier center in the NHL. With his size, exceptional skating, and high hockey IQ, we are confident he will thrive in our organization with increased responsibility and opportunity.

Dubois, the third-overall pick in the 2016 NHL Draft, is coming off an inconsistent season in his first year with the Kings, where he posted 16 goals and 24 assists for 40 points. Before that, he posted back-to-back 60-point campaigns with the Winnipeg Jets.

The 25-year-old has been on three different teams over his eight-year career and has shown that he can be a top contributor when he is on his game.

Meanwhile, Kuemper had his own seasons of struggles, losing the No. 1 goaltending job to Charlie Lindgren and appearing in just 33 games. He posted a .890 save percentage and 3.31 GAA, along with 13 wins, this past season, which marked the worst year of his career to date.

Both players have struggled, and this trade allows both the opportunity at a fresh start.
