LAS VEGAS — The Washington Capitals are still waiting on word regarding T.J. Oshie, as the 37-year-old is still hoping to find a fix to his chronic back issues and continue his playing career.

General manager Brian MacLellan shared on Thursday that Oshie is still weighing his options when it comes to his injury situation and status going forward.

"He's still in search of a permanent solution, talking to doctors, training staff," MacLellan said. "We'll see how it plays out."

MacLellan added that he expects a decision on Oshie's future near the end of the summer and before training camp.

Oshie was limited to just 52 games this past season due to recurring injuries, and managed 12 goals and 13 assists for 25 points, and his last handful of seasons were also plagued by ongoing issues with his back.

The 5-foot-11 winger underwent a double ablation at the end of last season, but it was only a temporary fix. He has been working with a chiropractor back home in Minnesota for the last bit, but per MacLellan, he is looking for something that will bring him long-term relief.

At the end of the season, he admitted that his back pain had gotten so severe that it left him "literally on the floor, peeing in water bottles," and that he wasn't sure whether or not he could continue playing.

"My issue is there's not just one problem back there. There's multiple things that we've got to find an answer for," Oshie said.
