DC ice cream shop owner making life sweeter for his neighborhood

WASHINGTON ( DC News Now ) — Charles Foreman lost his executive chef position at a D.C. restaurant during the pandemic which left him wondering what was next.

A friend asked him what he was going to do after he had been working in the industry for 20 years. And then in July 2021, he opened Everyday Sundae in the Petworth.

“I have been living in that area since the early 90’s,” Foreman said. “I know many of the children and their parents.”

Foreman said he is grateful for the support he has received from the community and surrounding region. He has a program called The Scoop Fund which helps struggling families receive ice cream at his shop at no cost.

“I know what its like to take two or three kids to get ice cream and all of a sudden the bill adds up,” Foreman said. “It is a great feeling when parents or kids come to the register and I tell them the scoops are on us, and see their faces light up.”

Foreman said its important to him for kids in the neighborhood to know that Everyday Sundae is a safe place for them to stop in if they need some time to get away.
