Washington Nationals center fielder James Wood (50) celebrates at first base after hitting an RBI single against the New York Mets during the seventh inning at Nationals Park.

Washington Nationals outfielder James Wood is in a season of firsts, earning his first major league hit in his debut on Monday against the New York Mets.

Wednesday night, Wood added to his rookie accomplishments by scoring his first MLB run in the sixth inning on a Luis Garcia game-tying three-run home run.

The 21-year-old also batted-in what would be the game-winning run in the seventh, his first big league RBI, scoring outfielder Lane Thomas with a two-out single to centerfield, giving Washington a 6-5 lead.

To top it all off, Wood also got his first career steal shortly after reaching first — beating the throw from New York catcher Luis Torrens and the tag from second baseman Jose Iglesias.

Washington would score again in the eighth inning, cementing a 7-5 victory over their National League East rivals.

In a post-game interview, Wood spoke about his clutch play saying a high-pressure moment like that "makes [playing] all the more fun."

Wood is ranked as the No. 2 prospect in baseball and is batting .300 over his first three games in Washington.
