A member of a Virginia school board says he won’t resign despite being sentenced Monday to 12 days behind bars for his role in the Jan. 6, 2021, riot in Washington, D.C.

Miles Adkins, 39, pleaded guilty to two federal misdemeanors after he was found to be among the many rioters who stormed the U.S. Capitol in an effort to overturn the 2020 election results and keep Donald Trump in the presidency.

While inside, Adkins “helped an individual enter the U.S. Capitol building through a broken window next to the Senate Wing Door,” according to a criminal complaint .

The Justice Department identified Adkins with the assistance of security footage from the Capitol, along with Adkins’ own social media activity.

“In a social media message, ADKINS corroborated his identity and actions inside the U.S. Capitol building by bragging that he drank a Coors Lite beer in the U.S. Capitol building,” the complaint said.

The day before the attack, Adkins talked to a friend on Facebook about what time they would travel to Washington.

“Fights are at night,” Adkins said, according to messages obtained by the Justice Department.

Adkins, who was elected to Frederick County’s school board in 2021, told NBC4 Washington that he won’t heed calls to step down.

“You’re going to need a bigger wrecking ball to get me out of there,” he told the station.

Adkins’ previous convictions include a DUI and a hit-and-run. Following this week’s sentencing, Adkins will serve his 12 days of incarceration on weekends and will be placed on two years of probation.
