Following a nationwide trend in the banking industry, TD Bank is closing a number of its branches.

This shift is driven by the increasing popularity of online banking and the resulting decline in foot traffic at physical locations.

While TD Bank doesn't have as many branches as some of its competitors, it's still streamlining its network and will close the following nine locations in April 2024.

    1. Washington, D.C.

    • 1753 Connecticut Avenue NW

As busy as the nation’s capital is, that hasn’t stopped bank locations from closing there. This TD Bank branch, just northeast of Dupont Circle, is set to close its doors in April.

Several other banks (including Truist, Wells Fargo, and PNC) have also elected to shutter locations in the D.C. area.

    2. Florida

    • 2675 West State Road 434, Longwood
    • 3325 West Hillsboro Boulevard, Deerfield Beach

Several banks have closed their branches in the Sunshine State, and two of TD Bank’s locations will follow suit.

These locations are halfway across the state from one another, but this is unsurprising as Florida has seen dozens of bank closures from multiple companies on both coasts and in many areas in between.

    3. Maine

    • 14 Sweden Street, Suite 201, Caribou
    • 250 Maine Mall Road, South Portland

TD Bank's closures in Maine leave the state's residents with no branches in the state's most northeastern city of Caribou, bout four branches left in coastal Portland.

    4. Maryland

    • 8101 Wisconsin Avenue, Bethesda

The closure of this Maryland location shouldn’t come as a shock; Bethesda already has one other TD Bank location, making this one redundant. The other branch is more centrally located than the soon-to-be-closed one on Wisconsin Avenue.

    5. Massachusetts

    • 370 Main St, Worcester
    • 460 Newton Street, South Hadley

Fortunately, the disappearance of two TD Bank branches in Massachusetts still leaves residents with nearly 300 locations across the state to choose from.

    6. New Hampshire

    • 2033 Woodbury Av, Newington

The closing date for the Newington branch at 2033 Woodbury Avenue has not yet been determined, and TD Bank still lists it among its 47 branches and ATMs in New Hampshire on its website.

    7. New Jersey

    • 103 Eisenhower Parkway, Roseland

Roseland is a town of just over 6,000 people, yet it has two TD Bank branches. Because there is another branch just across the freeway, it’s not unexpected that TD Bank elected to pare down to just one location in Roseland.

    8. New York

    • 950 Broadway, New York
    • 1240 First Avenue, New York
    • 1240 First Avenue, Elwood
    • 188 North Main Street, Sayville
    • 21 East Main Street, Washingtonville,
    • 250 Boston Post Road, Port Chester
    • 1200 Wantagh Avenue, Wantagh

New York tops the list with the most closures, with the majority of locations disappearing in the Big Apple and Long Island. However, as there are over 50 TD Bank locations in the City alone, it's unlikely these closures will impact the locals very much.

    9. Pennsylvania

    • Route 202 & Street Road, Westtown Township
    • 256 South York Road, Hatboro
    • 4309 Skippack Pike, Skippack

    • Roma Corporate Center, Allentown

The small area of Westtown Township will soon see its TD Bank location at the Westtown Village Shopping Center close. This will force TD Bank customers to travel five miles into the larger city of Westchester, which has an active branch.

The closures in Skippack and Allentown will still leave the state with 150 locations for TD Bank customers.

    10. South Carolina

    • 2609 Mills Park Dr, Rock Hill
    • 305 New Neely Ferry Rd., Mauldin
    • 133 West Main Street, Lake City

    • 315 East Dekalb Street, Camden

Rock Hill has two TD Bank locations, but the northern one will close. The residents of Mauldin aren’t so lucky. Their only location will close, leaving customers to choose between two nearby branches in Greenville or Simpsonville (each about five miles away).

Residents of Lake City and Camden will also lose access to a local TD Bank branch.

    11. Vermont

    • 90 Main Street, Montpelier

The closure of the Main Street branch will leave Vermont state capital residents to do their banking at the city's only other location on 9 School Street. The state as a whole has only 37 TD Bank branches spread out over 27 cities.

    12. Virginia

    • 9504 Main Street, Fairfax

The Fairfax area has three TD locations off Highway 236, and this one on Main Street is slated to close. Fortunately, customers won’t have to travel too far for banking as Fairfax still has two open branches on the west and east sides.

    Bottom line

While some TD Bank customers may find in-person banking less convenient due to these closures, the move reflects a broader industry shift toward digital banking.

With many daily transactions already handled online or via mobile apps, these closures could nudge you to explore new ways to check up on your financial health that don't involve visiting your local TD Bank.
