WASHINGTON ( DC News Now ) — Jamie Tyler spent 25 years as a D.C. police officer before retiring as a detective in 2022.

He is well known for his role in the hit Love & Marriage DC. In May of this year, he started the Jamie Tyler Foundation .

A big part of the non-profit is to provide mental health services to people in the DMV. He also encourages police and other first responders to pursue help if they are struggling.

Tyler said it’s something he didn’t do early in his career.

“We just take in a lot,” added Tyler. “We didn’t have a lot of people to vent to, except other police officers.”

Tyler is partnering with several mental health organizations and after two months, they are making an impact.

“I want to start that conversation that it’s ok to sit down and talk and express what is going on,” shared Tyler. “Having this platform allows me to reach more people and spread awareness about the importance of addressing mental health issues.”

Tyler said he is looking forward to expanding his reach and range of services to people all over the DMV.
