Alex Sarr Goes 0-15 In Summer League Game; Currently Shooting Just 19.5% In The Tournament

Alex Sarr , the second overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, had an abysmal performance in the Washington Wizards ' Summer League game last night. Sarr put up 0 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal, and 3 blocks. Sarr had a horrendous shooting night, going 0-15 from the field and 0-7 from the three-point line. He even failed to make both his free throws, going 0-2 from the stripe.
This was an absolutely atrocious showing from Sarr, who was hyped up ahead of the NBA Draft as one of the few bright prospects in this year's class. But to go 0-15 from the field in a Summer League game, especially as the second overall pick in the NBA Draft is quite stunning.
This game may have been an exaggerated display of his struggles, but Sarr has found it difficult to adjust to the NBA Summer League so far. In his three Summer League games so far, Sarr has shot just 8-41 from the field, and 2-17 from the three-point line. He is shooting at 19.5% from the field and 11.8% from beyond the arc respectively.
Sarr is currently averaging 18.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 2.0 blocks, and 0.6 blocks in his three Summer League games.
His decision to not work out with the Hawks led to them drafting Zaccharie Risacher with the first pick. This was seen as a power move, something we are used to seeing from the top players and prospects in the NBA.
Therefore, Sarr should also be performing like a top prospect, and not putting up goose eggs like he did tonight.
Several NBA Rookies Struggling In The Summer League
While the NBA Summer League is never a perfect indicator of how a player will perform in the league itself, it is many fans' first glimpse at the future stars of the NBA. A poor showing in the tournament could signal any flaws in a player's game that they need to improve.
Sarr will no doubt take this performance on the chin. He and the Wizards will now watch the tape back and see what exactly went wrong for him in last night's game. But Sarr isn't the only player to be notably underperforming at the Summer League.
Bronny is at least a second-round pick who played very little in college last year. Sarr is the second overall pick in the draft and has had at least three years of professional basketball experience in both the United States and Australia.
Sarr and the Wizards will hope that this was nothing more than an anomaly and that he can go back to playing his best come the regular season. The Wizards' coaching staff must work with Sarr to adjust his game to the NBA if necessary.
