WASHINGTON ( DC News Now ) — Millions of customers are expected to take advantage of the deals for the last day of Amazon Prime Day. However, thieves are as eager as customers to scoop up packages.

A report from Security.org said in 2023, 44% of American customers were victims of a stolen package at some point in their lifetime.

These Amazon lockers can be found across D.C., and eight lockers are available at police stations. Amazon said you can take advantage of several other pick-up locations including Whole Foods grocery stores.

The customer can select their packages to arrive at one of these lockers instead of their house. Once the package is delivered, customers will be notified and they can use a Bluetooth device or cell phone to enter a code to access the locker.

Police want thieves to know if they are caught stealing a package, there are consequences.

To make sure packages arrive to customers safe and sound, Amazon and the Metropolitan Police Department teamed up to provide lockers. This makes the District the first city to launch these Amazon lockers at police stations.

“If it’s a misdemeanor it’s up to a year in jail,” said Commander Sylvan Altieri. “So that’s usually what you’re looking at you know. Or under that depending on what the judge decides to give you with package stuff. Mostly it’s either receiving stolen property, which means you took the package we caught you after the actress committed, or if it’s theft, when we actually observe you stealing a package, they sort of carry the same penalty.”

MPD said for a misdemeanor, criminals could pay up to $1,000 in fines.

Amazon lockers can be found at the following locations:

    • First District Station – 101 M Street, Southwest
    • Second District Station -3320 Idaho Avenue, Northwest
