    Two Maryland men charged in Northwest DC armed carjacking

    WASHINGTON ( DC News Now ) — Police said two 18-year-olds from Maryland have been charged in connection to an armed carjacking in Northwest, D.C. early Monday morning.

    The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) said that around 1:30 a.m., someone was operating a moped near 14th Street and U Street, Northwest, when a group of people surrounded the victim and began assaulting them.

    Police said the suspects removed the victim from the moped. One of the suspects then allegedly took the bike and left the scene. The other suspects fled before officers arrived.

    During the investigation, two 18-year-olds, Robert Medoune Thiam and Ayomide Ikujuniof, both from Laurel, Md., were charged with carjacking.

    Police said the case remains under investigation.

    Anyone with information is asked to call 202- 727-9099 or text a tip to the department’s tip line at 50411. MPD said it is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest and indictment, in this case.
