Street closures and traffic disruptions are in effect this week for the visit of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and anticipated demonstrations.

The big picture: Netanyahu will head to the White House Tuesday and speak to Congress Wednesday — part of his first visit to Washington in almost four years, and his first trip abroad since Hamas' Oct. 7 attack on Israel that led to the war in Gaza, Axios' Barak Ravid reports.

What to expect: The streets near Foggy Bottom ( above ) will remain closed until 6am Friday, per D.C. police .

    • Southbound traffic on Rock Creek Parkway will be diverted onto I Street NW and continue through Virginia Avenue NW into Potomac River Freeway. Ohio Drive SW traffic will be diverted north on the Potomac River Freeway.

Parking is prohibited in several areas nearby until 3pm Saturday:

    • Virginia Avenue from Rock Creek Parkway to New Hampshire Avenue NW
    • Jamal Khashoggi Way from Virginia Avenue to F Street NW
    • F Street from Rock Creek Parkway to 25th Street NW
    • 27th Street from Virginia Avenue to K Street NW
    • 2600 block of I Street NW

A stretch of Pennsylvania Avenue between Constitution Avenue and 3rd Street NW will be closed to vehicle traffic on Wednesday from 5am to 6pm.

No-parking is in effect on many downtown streets:

    • Pennsylvania Avenue between 7th and 3rd Streets NW
    • Constitution Avenue between 15th and 3rd Streets NW
    • Independence Avenue between 14th and 3rd Streets SW
    • Maryland Avenue between Independence Avenue and 3rd Street SW
    • 3rd Street between Constitution and Independence Avenues SW
    • 7th Street between Pennsylvania Avenue NW to Independence Avenue SW
    • Jefferson Drive NW between 3rd and 7th Streets
    • Madison Drive NW between 3rd and 7th Streets

With anticipated protests, D.C. police say that "intermittent street closures and traffic delays" should be expected near the Capitol and downtown.

    • Plus: "All street closures and listed times are subject to change based upon prevailing or unexpected conditions."
