ARLINGTON COUNTY, Va. ( DC News Now ) — Officials with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) said some of its trains were single-tracking on Monday after smoke was reported at Reagan National Airport (DCA).

In a post made on X at 6:20 p.m., Metrorail said commuters should expect delays in both directions as the Blue and Yellow lines were both single-tracking.

Trains to Downtown Largo and Mt. Vernon Square began bypassing DCA entirely due to a report of smoke at the airport. A shuttle bus service was requested at Crystal City to help travelers.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) said a small fire had broken out on the track bed at the Reagan National Airport Metro Station. As of 8:54 p.m., it had been extinguished.

A spokesperson for WMATA said the fire was caused by an electrical issue with heat tape, which heats rails in the winter to prevent freezing.
