WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — Since 2019, Mark Ein has been the chairman of the DC Open tennis tournament. Now known as the Mubadala Citi DC Open, the tournament has grown significantly under Ein’s leadership. Currently, it is the only combined ATP and WTA 500-level tournament in the world.

In July of 2023, Ein, joining Josh Harris and his ownership group, became a limited partner minority owner of the Washington Commanders. It was a dream come true for Ein, who grew up in Chevy Chase, Maryland, attending elementary school with Harris.

This month marks one year for Ein with the Commanders organization, adding on to his tennis duties. This week, is always a busy one for Ein and even more so this week than in past years.

In his sit down with DC News Now, Ein discusses the excitement of this year’s tournament, local players like Frances Tiafoe, the latest on the Commanders new stadium efforts and more. Part two of the interview will air later in the week.
