    This weekend in D.C., check out Otakon, an art walk, Harry Potter Day at Nats park, a Jollof festival and more.


    1.💥 Otaku (nerd) out

    Celebrate Asian pop culture with a weekend of anime, manga, music and more at Otakon .

    The vibes: There will be live-action role-play, a gaming hall, costume contests, a fashion show and family fun.

    • New this year: To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the convention, there will be laser tag and a car show.

    2. 🤺 Fencing Across America

    • Experience the thrill of fencing without going to the Paris Olympics with demonstrations by USA Fencing now through Sunday at the National Mall. Free.

    3. 🖼️ First Fridays Art Walk

    • Enjoy live music, local artists, artisan vendors and shopping small businesses 6–10pm at Shaw's Ellington Plaza in front of the Howard Theatre. Free .

    • Enjoy an improv show with a prompt chosen by an audience member 8pm tonight, 7:30pm Friday, 7pm and 9:30pm Saturday, and 3pm Sunday at the Kennedy Center. Ticket prices vary by show .

    6. 🖤 5th Annual Virginia Black Business Expo

    • Visit a showcase with over 100 Black-owned businesses Friday through Sunday at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City at Reagan National Airport. Access to the marketplace is free . See prices for additional shows and networking opportunities here .

    7. 👗 Jane Austen Ball

    • Transport yourself to the Regency era with a night of waltzing, classical music, dessert, wine and more, Friday 6:30–10pm at Georgetown's Dumbarton House. Join the waitlist here .

    8. 🍛 Jollof Festival

    • Celebrate the delicious flavors of Jollof rice and vote on the best dish, 2–7pm Saturday at the Dew Drop Inn. Tickets start at $20 .

    9. 🔪 Murder Mystery Dinner
