    Man killed in hit-and-run involving minivan in Southeast DC

    WASHINGTON ( DC News Now ) — Police said a man died in the hospital days after he was struck by a minivan in Southeast, D.C.

    According to the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) on July 22, police officers noticed a man lying in the road in the 700 block of Chesapeake Street Southeast just before 6:30 p.m.

    The man, identified as 55-year-old Donnell Howard of Northeast, was taken to the hospital for treatment. He died days later.

    During the investigation, police learned that a dark-colored minivan hit Howard before leaving the scene.

    Police said Howard’s autopsy revealed that he died from internal blunt trauma that was consistent with being struck by a vehicle.

    As of Aug. 1, police had not identified the vehicle’s driver, and no arrests had been made.
