Wet stretch of weather on tap for the CSRA
Thursday evening update: Get ready for a pattern change as a trough drives a frontal boundary into the southeast. This front will stall out just north of the CSRA and tap into Gulf moisture resulting in scattered showers and storms, mainly during the afternoon and evening. The best chance of widespread rain will be this weekend. The good news is that this rain is much needed as we are experiencing drought conditions. However, we don’t want the flooding, which is a possibility with storms training over areas. As far as the severity of the storms, we can’t rule out a few severe storms, but it won’t be a major event. The primary threats are heavy rain, frequent lightning, strong winds, and small hail. As far as temperatures are concerned, they will hold steady near 90 degrees, which is actually a few degrees below-average. Humidity will make it feel hotter though, with heat indices near 100 degrees. Looking ahead to next week, the unsettled pattern continues with daily rain chances and temperatures near 90 degrees.

These storms pop up in the late afternoon and go into the evening. With these storms, be careful for gusty winds, dangerous lightning, and flooding as most of the CSRA has a marginal flash flood threat and a few counties with slight threats for tomorrow. Despite possible damage, the rain will also bring lower temps. Tomorrow will be like today in the mid 90s, but will drop to the low 90s as we go into the weekend. Heat indices will drop to the high 90s, getting out of the triple digits! The lows will be in the low 70s through the weekend and into next week.
